“Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preach the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things unto which angels long to look.” – 1 Peter 1:10-12

Peter wrote in 1 Peter the importance of salvation through Christ Jesus. While Peter may not have written many chapters within the Bible, his writings are concise and to the point concerning the importance of salvation through our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ. In the passage selected, we are able to see that GOD appointed prophets in the past to give us a future where we would inherit the kingdom of Heaven by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are reminded through Peter that these prophets served GOD and also future believers by giving us a foretelling of the future.

This takes us back all the way to the Pentateuch or Old Testament. We are reminded that the grace of GOD would be given at some point in the future through an atoning sacrifice in the LORD and Savior Jesus Christ. This was build up over the course of years and was not something that occurred right away. We were told by the prophets of the importance of keeping ourselves holy and pure through the commandments as a way to keep a relationship with our GOD. This continued for many years and was actualized through the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ who is a high priest and who carried out the will of the Father.

This allows us to understand the nature of history and the nature of the importance of acknowledging GOD, the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit. We are to preach the good news which is the Gospel which connects our belief and faith with the will of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That we may be able to serve GOD and testify concerning His abundant mercy, love, and kindness, and turn to GOD in order to gain salvation. We are reminded of the repentance of our sins and the removal of our transgressions through Jesus Christ who will return.
