Refuge

“Hear my cry, O GOD, listen to my prayers; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy. Let me dwell in your tent forever! Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings! Selah”- Psalm 61: 1-4

The LORD is a refuge for all of us. He is willing to cover us in his wings and provide us the ability to be safe from the battles that rage around us. We are to remember that there are many Psalms that show us that the LORD is a strong tower, a fortress, a refuge, which all show that He is our protection. While many trust in chariots and horses, we trust in the name of the LORD. Therefore though the Earth gives way or the mountains be moved to the heart of the sea, we will praise your name of LORD.

We are instructed that the LORD is able to provide us with what we need and is present everywhere we go. Though it may appear that we may be against a large number of adversaries, it is actually the large number of adversaries who are against the LORD, for the LORD goes before us and guides us.

King David made sure to show that the LORD is a rock that is higher than he which means that even while being king, he did not place himself as the center of importance. He always acknowledged the LORD and gave the credit to GOD. GOD is the one who gives us blessings. Therefore, we are reminded that we are not the center of the universe or the center of importance in this world. If a king realizes this, how much more should we.
