The casting of lots was a manner in which individuals would attempt to figure out what decision they would take. We are reminded in several instances of the Holy Bible the way that individuals cast lots to determine the specific action that they would take.
In one of the examples, the apostles of after the creation of the New Church Age in Acts, decided to cast lots in order to find a substitute apostle. It was stated that they cast lots to determine who was going to be the new apostle that would help spread the Gospel to distant lands and help individuals see the truth of the Gospel.
In another example, it was stated that the Roman soldiers decided to cast lots during the crucifixion of our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ. During this instance while Jesus was on the cross suffering for our sins and the sins of all the world for all time, the Roman soldiers decided to cast lots to know who would keep his tunic. This instance is recounted in the Psalm 22:18
“They divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.” – Psalm 22:18
These instances remind us that we sometimes want to know how something is going to turn out or to take an action when we do not have information. Yet we are told that even when we want a specific outcome to occur or even when we use a method of attempting to detect what is to occur, the decision is from the LORD. Every decision is from the LORD. Every. So while we attempt to get things the way we want or attempt to get them the way we want, the LORD’s outcome will prevail.
